Century Cattle Co. breeds Red Angus cows to Wagyu bulls. Every calf on the ranch is a Wagyu and Red Angus cross, and this is the ranch's first calf crop.
Every calf we have is a Wagyu and Red Angus cross. This is the first calf crop the ranch has raised, so there are no finished ranch-raised cattle yet and no carcass data to report. What the cross produces on this ground is something we will know as those cattle come through.
The program has two parts. Registered bulls are papered and pedigreed, with performance data that can be traced. The commercial cow herd is where production happens and holds most of the cattle. A cow contributes one calf a year, while a bull contributes genetics to the entire calf crop, so bull selection is what moves the herd in a given direction.
If the ranch develops a branded beef product with prime grading as the target, Wagyu use would increase. That is a goal rather than a scheduled plan, and it depends on how the current calf crop performs.
Red Angus is the cow side of the herd. Wagyu is the sire side on every calf we have.
