At Century Cattle Co., caring for the land and caring for our cattle go hand in hand. During the heat of summer, cattle naturally seek relief from the sun. In many ranching environments, this often means gathering near shaded areas and water sources, including riparian areas along streams. While these areas provide important habitat and cooling opportunities, too much pressure from livestock can impact vegetation, soil health, and water quality over time.
To help address this challenge, we are implementing mobile shade structures that allow us to provide cattle with relief from the summer heat while encouraging more balanced use of the landscape.
By moving shade locations throughout the pasture, we can help distribute cattle more evenly, reduce concentrated impact near sensitive waterways, and protect the vegetation that plays an important role in maintaining healthy streams and ecosystems.
